Article Details

Last Updated
25th o September, 2009

We want to share our plans for the coming weeks and months so you can know where Open-Mesh.com is headed.  Our goal is to provide the most solid, flexible, open solution and accessories for low-cost WiFi mesh networks.

Hardware and Accessories

  • New Mini Router.  Now Available!  The new OM1P Mesh Router:  Identical to the Accton MR3201A in appearance, includes several improvements:  Passsive POE, cooler switching voltage regulator, 6-18v power supply range, 12V power supply to support longer length POE, internal 2dbi chip antenna for diversity, 2.5dbi external antenna, and a hardware watchdog to reduce any possible problem with lockups due to power supply problems.  Also has outdoor and indoor wallplug enclosures available.  Great for remote, outdoor, or hard-to-reach installations.
  • New High-Power Options!   We now supportUbiquiti Pico2-HP (1 watt) and Wiligear WDB-500 (500mw) plus several other Ubiquiti and Engenius routers.  Check out our "Compatible Solutions" link at www.open-mesh.com.
  • 802.11n Support.  We will be supporting the Ubiquiti "M" series and RouterStation products soon.  Stay-tuned...

Dashboard / Firmware:

  1. New Captive Portal Option.   We are partnering with Coova and WigiGator (Now Available!) to bring you a new captive portal solutions.  They are automatically configured on the open-mesh dashboard (no cryptic RADIUS options to fill in) and will be a superset of our current "open" offering including:  1)  Several new professionally designed splash page templates; 2) User Authentication; 3) multiple service tiers; 4) the ability to set bandwith rates; maximum usage; maximum time online; 5) Users and Usage graphs and reports; 6) Roaming support:  Users will only see the splash page once on the network; 6) Pay for use options via Google Checkout and Paypal.  Best of all, it will be VERY low cost and there is NO revenue sharing - you keep it all.
  2. Now Available!  Multiple networks under a single account.  This will let you manage any number of networks using a single login/password.  You will also be able to give to local administrators a login/password for each network individually, and of course our read-only reports will continue to be open
  3. Many other improvements.  Delete network, improved GUI (better organization, "eye-candy", etc.), "hidden" nodes that will not show up on public maps, many new graphs and charts to help you see and manage your network efficiently.
  4. Host your own dashboard.  Soon our dashboard can be hosted on our servers or yours.  Migration of your existing open-mesh hosted network(s) will be automatic (Now Available with Orange-mesh)  We plan to have this available for free download late 2009.
